Camlab has introduced the CW7000 BOD sensor, a six sample direct reading instrument designed to enable precise measurement of the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) based on the manometric principle
The environmentally-friendly, mercury-free system offers direct sample selection and integrates a number of user-friendly features that help simplify a complex measurement procedure and lower operating costs.
Friendly features include the capability to display all BOD results directly in mg/l without the need for time-consuming conversions.
The measuring period can also be user-selected between one and 28 days (BOD5, BOD7, OECD).
The system's measuring ranges from 0-40mg/l to 0-4000mg/l BOD/sample volume related and offers automatic storage of BOD values.
The CW7000 uses manometric respirometers to provide direct measurement of the oxygen consumed by microorganisms from an air or oxygen-enriched environment in a closed vessel under conditions of constant temperature and agitation.
Carbon dioxide produced metabolically by the bacteria is chemically bound by the potassium hydroxide solution contained in the seal cup in the bottle.
The result is a pressure drop in the system, which is directly proportional to the BOD value and is measured by the BOD sensor.
The BOD level is then displayed directly in mg/l.
Following measurement, the results are stored and can be called up to the display at any time.
The inductive stirrer system not only mixes the sample but also ensures optimum gas exchange between sample and gas space in the sample flask.
Alongside the BOD instrument are sample flasks, a non-wearing inductive stirrer system, overflow measuring flask to measure the sample volume, nitrification inhibitor and potassium hydroxide is used as an absorbent.
Other features of the system include an autostart function following temperature equalisation of the samples, automatic stirrer rod centring by the inductive stirrer system and an RS232 interface.
Available with the CW7000 are compact incubators specifically designed to ensure accurate temperature control of the BOD samples.
With built in power supplies to drive the BOD stirrer there are no trailing cables to worry about.
The small footprint CW7000 is ideal for use by water industry companies, waste handling and landfill organisations, contract laboratories as well as food and drink companies.
