Advantage West Midlands (AWM), a regional development agency, has awarded a research and development grant to Nanotherics to help it develop gene transfection technologies.
Nanotherics supplies scientific devices and associated products to research laboratories in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
The company's products use nanoparticles and magnetic fields to help deliver biomolecules, such as DNA, into living cells.
It is hoped this approach will help non-viral gene therapy, an area demanding safer technology to treat genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis.
Nanotherics will soon introduce the Magnefect-nano, a flexible device that provides up to 1000-times better transfection efficiency than cationic lipid agents for short transfection times.
