Reading Scientific Services (RSSL) is offering FOSFA-accredited services to farmers and small independent oil processors in a bid to improve standards and quality in the speciality oils market.
RSSL already works for many of the larger oil producers, food manufacturers and retailers, and feels that smaller processors risk being left behind.
The oils and fat laboratory at RSSL, which is part of the Investigative Analysis Department, provides analytical services that can assess the quality, authenticity and purity of oils and fats.
It also offers research into the use of functional ingredients such as omega-3 fatty acids and phytosterols.
The company has worked with a number of larger producers and retailers to assess quality, authenticity and further shelf-life and with this move, shows it is keen to work with smaller producers as well.
