The new 4700 proteomics discovery system from Applied Biosystems gives proteomics researchers an excellent information source that will help them to streamline the process of protein identification, expression analysis, and characterisation.
Using the 4700, researchers can directly link experimentally identified proteins to the relevant biological information and annotative tools in the Celera Discovery System (CDS) online platform, including biological and molecular function, SNP sites, alternate splice forms and comprehensive genetic information.
In addition, this new system, when combined with new results dependent analysis (RDA) software, will direct further analysis of complex samples for additional discovery and characterisation of low abundance proteins when necessary.
For example, researchers using Icat reagents for protein expression studies can now use the 4700 system to initially quantify the proteins present in a sample and then automatically resubmit only those proteins that are over- or under-expressed for additional MS/MS analysis and protein identification.
The 4700 system is said to be the first commercially available system to fully support LC-Maldi experiments, part of the new, advanced proteomic workflow pioneered at the Applied Biosystems Proteomics Research Center in the USA.
