Instrument has been designed to determine glass transitions, eutectic and melting temperatures, but it will also show the effects of heat treatment with regard to annealing
Biopharma announces the launch of the Lyotherm2 impedance (Zsinj) and DTA instrument for detailed analysis of freeze drying formulations.
Developed in collaboration with leading authority Professor Louis Rey, this instrument has been designed to determine glass transitions (Tg'), eutectic (Teu) and melting temperatures but it will also show the effects of heat treatment with regard to annealing or prolonged storage of products.
Lyotherm2's new Zsinj impedance technology offers finer pinpointing of the onsets of events occurring within a frozen formulation, allowing detailed analysis below the traditional glass transition temperature.
This provides essential background information on critical events such as microcollapse or other rearrangements.
Lyophilisation parameters can therefore be selected on a rational and product-specific basis to provide maximum resultant product activity and best product aesthetics. Building on the success of the original Lyotherm, additional benefits in this second generation system include smaller sample volumes and more controlled cooling and heating.
Raw data is stored in a secure Paradox database, while software allows export of data to Microsoft Excel on a mouse click.
Lyotherm2 not only has the benefit of combining Zsinj and DTA analysis within one instrument, but also comes in at a fraction of the cost of many DSCs, says Biopharma.
Together with the Lyostat2 freeze drying microscope, Lyotherm2 provides valuable information that can be fed back into both formulation and cycle development.
