Newport has introduced a series of laser diode current supplies that it says offer a level of performance and functionality previously unavailable in low cost instruments.
In particular, the 500B series offers improved ease-of-use through a USB interface, and even includes bundled application software and LabView drivers to allow operation through a virtual control panel.
The 500B series laser diode drivers are useful for a wide variety of diode laser development and QA tasks, offering all the tools for automatic generation of LIV curves.
Their unique combination of low noise and high stability also enables them to support demanding applications in scientific research and spectroscopy, as well as fibre optic communications research, development and testing.
Currently, there are four 500B series laser diode current sources, offering up to 0.1A, 0.5A, 2.5A or 6.0A of maximum output.
The 6A output model can be adjusted with a resolution of just 0.12mA, while patented noise reduction circuitry lowers ripple to less than 2.5mA.
All models can be operated in either constant current or constant light output mode, and also accept external modulation.
The modulation bandwidth ranges up to approximately 800kHz for the 0.1A model.
