Promega's new MagneSil blood genomic Max Yield and Magnesil One fixed yield systems are designed for the rapid automated purification of DNA from up to 200µl of whole blood.
No human intervention is required once the protocol has begun.
Both systems are suitable for use on robotic workstations such as the Beckman Biomek FX and Tecan Genesis platforms using 96-well formats.
It takes just one hour to process 96 samples and turnaround time between consecutive runs is as little as 15 minutes.
The automated protocol avoids the potentially hazardous chemicals and lengthy procedures associated with traditional methods of purifying DNA from blood.
The MagneSil Max Yield system yields between 2-6µg of DNA from up to 200µl of whole blood.
The system is scaleable so that volumes can be modified to provide the yield required - so optimising the price per preparation.
The MagneSil One system extracts approximately 1µg of DNA from upwards of 60µl of normal blood, removing the need for subsequent quantification and normalisation of DNA before PCR or other procedures.
This builds on Promega's success with fixed yield DNA purification.
Fixed DNA yields can also be achieved with the DNA IQ system, a leading product in forensic and human identity DNA preparation.
The MagneSil blood genomic systems use paramagnetic beads as a mobile solid phase for DNA purification.
DNA binding to particles occurs in suspension, where the bead system allows excellent solvent access and therefore highly efficient washing.
The highly pure resultant DNA is suitable for single locus 'simple PCR' as well as more demanding multiplex PCR and SNP genotyping applications.
