Renishaw's Raman users now have the option of combining a Fourier Transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer with any new or installed inVia or RM series Raman microscope.
This combination instrument provides the analyst with a complete chemical picture. Infrared spectroscopy is a complementary technique to Raman spectroscopy: Raman spectroscopy can measure low frequency vibrations often present in inorganic materials while infrared may provide better identification for many organic materials. Even within the same material, some bond vibrations that are inactive or only weakly active in the infrared can be strong in Raman, and vice versa.
The FT-IR spectrometer module is a natural fit for Renishaw's Raman microscopes and can be fitted at any time - at purchase, or retro-fitted in the field.
Both spectrometers incorporate innovative technologies allowing their use with almost any infinity-corrected microscope without sacrificing the microscope's optical contrast methods.
Space and money are saved by eliminating the need to have two separate instruments, and users save time by performing both techniques on just one instrument.
Note that the FT-IR module is currently not available from Renishaw in the USA.
